SENATOR OKEY EZEA APPEALS FOR THE RECOGNITION OF HIS SENATORIAL ZONE IN THE NOMINATION OF THE NEXT BATCH OF MINISTERS
...As he notes that Enugu North Senatorial District has not produced a Minister since the return of democracy in 1999
At the plenary of 1st August, 2023, during the screening of the Ministerial nominees by the Senate, the Chairman Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions Senator Barr. Okechukwu Ezea representing the good people of Enugu North Senatorial District made a very crucial point/remark as the minister nominee from his State was being screened.
The Distinguished Senator drew the attention of the Senate President to Section 14, subsection 3 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which states thus:
"the composition of the federation or any of it's agencies shall recognize and reflect the federal character of Nigeria and need to promote national unity and also to command national loyalty thereby ensuring that their shall be no predominant of persons from a few states or from a few ethnic or other sectional groups in the government and its agencies."
The people’s Senator noted that since the return of democracy in 1999, Enugu State has produced eight (8) Ministers and none of these ministers were from his Senatorial Zone (Enugu North Senatorial District). The Distinguished Senator appealed that since the government will still nominate more ministers, he expects that his senatorial zone will be recognized to ensure equity and fairness as reflected in the nations constitution and federal character principle.
Senator Barr. Okey Ezea is indeed living up to his promise of giving Ndi Nsukka a voice at the National Assembly.
