COMMENDATIONS AS SENATOR EZEA INTERACTS WITH THE SENIOR FEDERAL CIVIL/PUBLIC SERVANTS FROM NSUKKA

*COMMENDATIONS AS SENATOR EZEA INTERACTS WITH THE SENIOR FEDERAL CIVIL/PUBLIC SERVANTS FROM NSUKKA.* Distinguished Senator Okey Ezea on Wednesday, 10th July, 2024, hosted the senior federal civil/public servants from Enugu North Senatorial District to a dinner in Abuja. The event which was tagged "Senator Okey Ezea's Interaction with Senior Civil/Public Servants from Enugu North Senatorial District" witnessed a massive turnout of top senior civil/public servants from the zone, from the level of assistant director and above. At the event, Senator Ezea harped on the need for unity amongst Nsukka elites, stressing that it is only through unity that the zone could make appreciable progress. The Senator expressed shock that Nsukka had more than one hundred senior federal civil/public servants from the level of assistant director and above, yet the zone constantly cries of marginalisation in both the state and federal level. He noted that given the number of its sons and daughters in the military, police, paramilitary, civil service, judiciary, etc, the zone maintains a commanding height in the system, yet it is the most disadvantaged in the state in terms of political appointment at the centre. He quived at the fact that since the history of the zone no Nsukka person has ever been appointed a federal permanent secretary. This he attributed to several factors, including the lack of unity amongst the elites from the zone, especially lack of unity amongst our elite civil servants. The Senator therefore enjoined the civil servants to unite for the progress of the zone. The event was chaired by a former governor of Enugu State and former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, His Excellency Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo. While also harping on the need for unity amongst the elite civil servants from the zone, Dr. Nwodo commended Senator Ezea for taking the novel initiative to bring all the senior federal civil/public servants from the zone under one umbrella. He further stressed the need for sustainability of the initiative as, according him, it is only through such a collegial effort that meaningful development could be attracted to the zone. Also speaking at the event, Prof. Osita Ogbu, former economic adviser to the president and former minister of national planning, after thanking Senator Ezea for the bold initiative, encouraged the civil servants to ensure that the idea was sustained through conscious efforts to stay united. He also lamented the fact that an Nsukka man has never risen to the position of permanent secretary since the history of the zone, blaming the ugly trend on several factors, including the lack of unity amongst its elites. Prof. Ogbu also enjoined the federal civil/public servants from the zone to endeavour to stay together, while also urging them to maintain a constant touch with the senator as information coming from them could be potent tool in the hands of the senator in his drive to secure employment and other dividends of democracy for the people of the zone. Other speakers at the event included Amb. Ejike Eze, Chief Chuka Eze, and a host of other speakers. The event was attended by several sons and daughters of Nsukka, including Dr. Nwodo who chaired the event, Prof. Osita Ogbu, Hon. Chijioke Edeoga, Rt. Hon. Eugene Odo, former speaker Enugu State House of Assembly, Dr. Emeka Dike, Deputy Controller General of Nigeria Immigration Service in charge of Border Management, Hon.
