Reviving Abandoned Road Projects: A Renewed Commitment to Akpanya Community
Abuja, Nigeria – May 21, 2024
Earlier today, the National Assembly office in the Three Arms Zone, Abuja, hosted a significant delegation from the Akpanya Community. The delegation, led by Mr. Silas Idoko, President-General of the Akpanya Welfare Association, met with me to discuss the urgent need for the completion of the Ogrute - Umuida - Unadu - Akpanya - Odolu road.
This vital road project, initially awarded during President Goodluck Jonathan's administration, was unfortunately abandoned after only preliminary works were completed under the succeeding Buhari administration. The delegation expressed their concerns about the deplorable state of the road and its impact on the community's development and daily life.
In response to their concerns, I assured the Akpanya leaders of my unwavering commitment to this issue. I promised to pursue the inclusion of the road project in the forthcoming budget to ensure it receives the necessary funding for completion. Recognizing the importance of collaborative efforts, I also pledged to confer with my Kogi East counterpart, Senator Jubrin Isah (Ichocho). Together, we aim to concert our efforts and leverage our positions to facilitate the revival and completion of this crucial infrastructure project.
The meeting underscored the importance of addressing abandoned projects that significantly impact local communities. As representatives of the people, it is our duty to ensure that such projects are not left incomplete, causing undue hardship and stalling development.
The Akpanya Community’s visit highlights the ongoing need for accountability and proactive measures in governance, ensuring that projects aimed at improving the lives of citizens are seen through to their completion. The commitment to the Ogrute - Umuida - Unadu - Akpanya - Odolu road project is a testament to this resolve, promising a better future for the Akpanya community and its environs.
