Renewed Tragedy in Uzo-Uwani: Senator Ezea Calls for Justice and Patience
Enugu State, Nigeria – May 26, 2024
In a devastating resurgence of violence, the community of Adani in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area (LGA) of Enugu State was attacked on Sunday by non-state actors. Emerging from the bush, these assailants brutally murdered several defenseless men, women, and children, reigniting fears and sorrow in a community that had begun to believe the killings had ceased.
Senator Ezea, deeply moved by the tragic events, expressed his profound grief and called for immediate action. "My heart bleeds for the innocent lives lost in this senseless massacre," he stated. "We thought the violence had ended, but once again, our people are suffering."
In his urgent appeal, Senator Ezea called upon the state's security apparatus — including the police, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, and other security operatives — to act swiftly. "I enjoin the state actors to fish out these marauders and deliver justice to them as quickly as possible," he emphasized. The senator's call reflects the community's desperate need for protection and justice in the wake of repeated attacks.
Senator Ezea also extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved families and the entire community of Adani. He urged the people to remain patient and law-abiding as they await the government's response. "While I extend my condolences to our people currently mourning the massacre of their loved ones at Adani, I urge our people to be patient and law-abiding while we wait for the government’s response to the situation," he said.
The renewed violence in Uzo-Uwani highlights the ongoing challenges of security and peace in the region. Senator Ezea's statement underscores the need for a concerted effort from both the government and the community to address the root causes of such violence and to ensure that justice is served swiftly and effectively.
As the community mourns and seeks answers, the senator's plea for patience and adherence to the law is a reminder of the importance of unity and resilience in the face of tragedy. The hope is that with diligent effort from security forces and cooperation from the community, peace can finally be restored to Uzo-Uwani.
